How To Give Your Boyfriend or Husband a Style Makeover

At one point or another, you are inevitably going to grow tired of seeing your significant other in the same five outfits that he absolutely adores.

There are two things that you can do about this. You can either throw a fit and demand that he change his personal style to keep the relationship alive, or you can slowly but surely begin to help him through a subtle wardrobe upgrade.

While the latter may seem like it is going to take too much work, it is actually quite easy to begin to impart your opinion onto your boyfriend or husband’s style by keeping a few important things in mind.

For starters, you should always remember that his style is a look into his individuality. Just as you would never want someone you love to change who you are, you should never want to change him. Instead, you are going to want to help him through a gradual wardrobe upgrade by using positive reinforcement, some patience, and maybe a bit of advice from this article.

Here are a few things that you should keep in mind when deciding that you want to give your man a style makeover:

Compliment him

Chances are that this guy really cares about you. He chose you out of every other person on Earth to be with, so it isn’t a stretch to believe that he probably wants to make you happy.

If you provide him with some positive reinforcement when he wears something that you really like, he’s naturally going to want to wear it more often. Not only will this improve his self-esteem, but it will make his mind correlate those outfits with your pleasure. In other words, you are (somewhat sneakily, might I add) showing him that, when he dresses nicely, you are even more attracted to him than usual.

Give him options

A brand new wardrobe doesn’t have to break the bank. Many men wrongly believe that, in order to look their best, they have to spend an arm and a leg. It is up to you, as the person spearheading this wardrobe change, to show him that nice clothing doesn’t always come at an ugly price.

Provide him with fashionable, budget friendly options that you know he will like. Get him an affordable haircut to make him feel good about himself. Help him see the guy that you see every single day and love so very much. Most importantly, prove to him once and for all that quality can be affordable if you know where to shop.

Be patient

Understand that he may not always want to be a part of this. He most likely doesn’t like being told what to do. He already has a mother and doesn’t need another. So it is up to you to go about giving him a style makeover with patience and tact.

Under no circumstances should you tear through his closet and throw away all of his favorite clothes. Instead, introduce new articles of clothing a little at a time — and make sure that these clothes are ones that he’ll enjoy. No amount of positive reinforcement in the world will make him like an outfit that is so far from his own personal style.

  • I don’t generally have much of a say on my OHs clothing because he has his own style and I’m happy with that. But I will help him with formal outfits if he needs it.

My boyfriend hates shopping and buys all his clothes second hand haha.

  • I just leave my husband to it, he knows his own mind at his age.
